Matthew 10:40
“Whoever receives you receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”
RECEIVING
While this heavenly truth certainly speaks of evangelism, its principle is a blessedness reaching every area of our Christian lives. First, we recognize the unity with Christ for those whom He has saved by grace. Christ dwells in you and me richly, mightily, and securely (Heb 13:5). In Christ’s commission to His disciples to proclaim the gospel of the kingdom, His presence, through the Holy Spirit, ministered in the disciple and to the hearer. Yet this is a truth we may exercise each time two Christian disciples meet, and most especially, each time we gather in Christ’s name. The fellowship we enjoy is not merely Christian brothers or sisters sharing a common belief in God; the very presence of Christ is with us and that union in each of us will be extended in like manner. The grace of God in Christ which saved us, is given and received by believers because we’re not only meeting with one another, we are meeting with Christ Jesus Himself. Our reception of one another though the active exercise of this truth allows us to see Christ in one another; to be more gracious to one another because of the presence of Christ; overlooking a multitude of sins because of love for Christ and those whom He has saved; delighting in one another because Christ is our supreme delight; humbly ministering to one another for the sake of Christ Jesus, who dwells in us through the eternal gift of the Holy Spirit.
When Christ’s disciples meet,
Its truth is no light thing;
Christ’s presence makes it sweet,
And gives us voice to sing.
