Isaiah 3:10
Tell the righteous that it shall be well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds.
ENCOURAGEMENT
While situations and circumstances may seem bleak around us, like those presented by Isaiah of the wicked spiritual condition in Judah and Jerusalem from this third chapter of his prophecy, our verse today stands as a shining light of encouragement during dark times. Like Judah of old, we in America stand amid a spiritual landscape that says,
Woe to them! For they have brought evil on themselves. Isaiah 3:9
The prophet also cries out,
Woe to the wicked! Isaiah 3:11
As a result of the idolatrous spiritual nature of our nation, God has made godless “boys” our princes and unlearned, inexperienced “infants” to rule over us (Isa 10:4), with oppression toward one another everywhere (Isa 10:5), not only in our government, but also in churches that call themselves Christian. Rather than walking in humility because we serve a holy God, much of American Christendom…
…are haughty and walk with outstretched necks, glancing wantonly with their eyes, mincing along as they go, tinkling with their feet, Isaiah 3:16
Yet amid of this idolatry, the Lord Jesus Christ still speaks through men of God. The Lord Jesus says to us that His righteousness placed upon our account by grace through faith will produce fruitful deeds in us, and that we will be nourished by them. What is meant by this? Since the Holy Spirit abides in saved souls (John 14:17), the Spirit’s fruit will be the true treasure manifested in behavior and deeds produced by grace through faith. God’s “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Gal 5:22-23) will be the sweet taste of our mouths and the eternal nourishment of our souls. The Spirit’s fruit marks the very character of the Lord Jesus as perfect Man, and we are encouraged and strengthened by the promise of God to be partakers thereof. Indeed, as David penned lovingly and joyfully,
Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Psalm 34:8
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Though wickedness arises in
The hearts of wicked “boys”,
We walk by faith and shun all sin
With Christ’s love, peace, and joy.
