Ezekiel 20:11
“I gave them My statutes and made known to them My rules, by which, if a person does them, he shall live.”
RULES
YHVH God gave Israel the Law through Moses. This Law, which comes from God, is good, holy, and righteous (Rom 7:12). Through the Law, God gave the people His statutes and rules; and if a person does them, keeps them, protects them, and performs them with all His heart, soul, mind, and strength surrendered unto devoted honor toward Christ, he or she shall live. The bad news is, no man, woman, or child who is a descendant of fallen Adam can fulfill God’s statutes and rules. We are sinners through and through; and we have fallen short of God’s glory (Rom 3:23).
The good news is that a Person has done them, has lived in, by, and through the statutes and rules of God perfectly. This is none other than Jesus Messiah. He, the second Person of the Trinity, fulfilled the Law both actively and passively (Matt 5:17-18); perfect Man, who was born of a virgin and made to live under the Law as a Jew (Gal 4:4). And because Jesus kept the Law, all those who believe in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting live (John 3:16). In other words, he who believes in Christ as the perfect Substitute for keeping the Law, receiving the penalty for the Law, he shall live. Salvation by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, is good news indeed. Hallelujah! What an encouraging Savior!
This blessed Law, which comes from God,
Is holy, good, and just;
Yet only Christ has kept its rules,
Believe on Him, we must.
