Psalm 21:6
For You make him most blessed forever; You make him glad with the joy of your presence.
PRESENCE
While this blessed psalm of David presents God’s blessings upon David as king of Israel, it is also prophetic of Messiah Jesus, the King of kings. Moreover, it also has application for every believer in Christ. As the anointed King on earth, the Lord Jesus rejoiced in the strength of the Father through the Spirit, and He greatly exulted God’s salvation of fallen man (Psa 21:1). Christ’s desire of His heart was the Father’s will and glory; and in that perfect and sinless desire, His every request was answered. The only petition not granted in the positive was the one Jesus prayed in the garden the night He was arrested (Psa 21:2). The verse we consider today can also be translated from the Hebrew,
For You appointed Him as a source of blessings forever; Your presence brings gladness with joy. Psalm 21:6, Pastor Jon Translation
As it pertains to Jesus, it is obvious— He is God’s Anointed, appointed to be the source of blessings; and moreover, His constant fellowship with the Father through the Spirit during His earthly ministry brought Jesus immense gladness with joy. As it applies to us, God has appointed both you and me eternal blessings through salvation in Christ. At the same time, the very presence of Christ in us, through the gracious salvation we’ve received from Him, causes us to be a source of eternal blessings for others. Moreover, each time we consider, think about, or meditate upon Christ’s presence, He who promised He would never leave us nor forsake us (Heb 13:5) will make us glad with the joy of Christ’s presence. Hallelujah! What a present Savior!
Because You have appointed me
To bless in Jesus’ name,
Your presence makes me glad with glee;
May others know the same.
