Revelation 15:2
And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire— and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands.
GOSPEL
Just eleven days ago, we considered Revelation 4:6 and the sea of glass before the throne of God (you can reread it here). That sea of glass, being before the throne, was the gospel of grace, for access to God’s throne can only be attained by God’s grace. Today, we consider a sea of glass mingled with fire. It is the same gospel. While there are four gospel accounts in the New Testament, there is only one gospel. As our Lord Christ is a consuming fire (Heb 13:5), His gospel also is a purifying fire. It is the truth of Christ’s gospel that purges us, cleanses us, and purifies the stains we receive daily from the world and our flesh. Until the Lord Jesus returns, we shall never be fully purged, completely cleansed, or perfectly purified. The Lord Jesus desires that it be this way, so that we may still lean upon Him and not upon our own understanding. Jesus wants us to trust in Him and in the power of His might, and not for us to place confidence in our own flesh. Each day that we see the truth of Christ’s gospel, trust in Christ’s redemptive atonement, and faithfully surrender to His will, it purges us with the fire of His holiness and sets us up to stand before our God to worship and adore Him (with harps of God in their hands). Hallelujah! What a Savior!
