Psalm 148:3
Praise Him, sun and moon, praise Him, all you shining stars!
PRAISE
The question may (and should) arise, “How do these heavenly bodies praise Yehovah God?” Consider the sun. Since its creation on the fourth day, it exalts the LORD in its beauty, its fullness, its brightness, and its unfailing reflection of the Light of its Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ (John 8:12). Now, consider the moon. While in its orbit around the earth, it reflects the sun when it is full. While it is not a direct reflection of Jesus Messiah, it is still a witness of His glory by reflecting the light of the sun in the night, when it would otherwise be pitch black. Consider the stars. It is by the multitude of these shining lights praise YHVH God as their every twinkle testifies to the faithfulness of Almighty God:
“And He brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then He said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Genesis 15:5
These heavenly bodies are also placed high in the sky, praising God for His mercy, love, and grace in providing poor, pitiful earthbound mankind with such pulchritudinous splendor.
Each time we cast our gaze heavenward, every look upon the sun, moon, an stars should remind us to praise our King, Creator, and Redeemer, our Lord Jesus Messiah. We often disregard the wonder of praise in the heavenly bodies for any number of reasons. Yet in this psalm, the Lord reminds us not to dismiss their creation and proclamation when he has moved the psalmist to write:
Let them praise the name of the LORD! For He commanded and they were created. And He established them forever and ever; He gave a decree, and it shall not pass away. Psalm 148:5-6
It’s not that they are not already praising. We just get so busy with so many things that we miss the beauty of their hallelujahs. Let them praise His name!
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
