Psalm 27:4
One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in His temple.
DWELL
More than any time in the history of the church, the silliness of turning the assembly of worship into a carnival for the unsaved is at a fever pitch. The gospel has been watered down by so many professing to be Christians that it doesn’t even resemble anything biblical anymore. Many “churches” have become nothing more than a spiritual Walt Disney World Resort and the “good news” of heaven and the resurrection to come has become “a better place” regardless of how heinous one’s sins are against God and His Christ. In his blessed psalm, David summarizes the reward of faith and the rejoicing of the saved soul in today’s verse— the Messiah of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. The only reason heaven is heavenly is because of the presence of Christ, the Lord. That you and I may dwell in the presence of Christ all the days of our lives is eternal life indeed. Although “He had no form or majesty that we should look at Him, and no beauty that we should desire Him” (Isa 53:2) while He walked upon planet during His ministry, the Lord Jesus Christ was the very beauty of the LORD, spiritually speaking, because in Him, is, was, and ever more shall be, eternal life. Indeed, He is…
…the Way, the Truth, and the Life. John 14:6
To inquire in His temple, that is, to ask anything of Christ and from Christ, is to enjoy eternal peace, for Christ Jesus is the Answer. By salvation, we live and dwell in the eternal “already-not-yet,” as the old Puritan believers would say. Spiritually speaking, we are already seated together with Christ in heavenly places in Christ (Eph 2:6); yet at the same time, there is a Day coming, when we will dwell in His actual presence, which should be, must be, the one thing we ask of God, and the one thing we seek after. Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Lord, make my life quite focus’d on
Jesus Christ, my one true Reward;
Until that Day, reveal Your Son
According to Your holy Word.
