Genesis 3:6
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.
ACTUALLY, AND ALLEGORICALLY
Sometimes the question arises, “Why didn’t God just intervene?” He didn’t intervene because the entire scenario was inevitable. Is God, therefore, the author of evil. By no means. Yet in YHVH God’s sovereign providence, He demonstrates that in the creation of mankind, apart from the Lord Jesus Christ, man will falter, man will fail, and man will fall. Apart from the Lord Jesus Messiah, man created in sinless perfection (with the breaths of lives in his nostrils), placed in the perfect environment (Garden of Eden), given the perfect companion (the woman from his own side), and enjoying perfect communion with Creator God, will only doubt God’s Word, disobey God’s command, dishonor God’s holy character, and bring death to himself and others. This is what actually happened in the garden all those many years ago.
At the same time, however, the scenario also created a prophetic allegory, foreshadowing the Messiah to come. Adam becomes a type of Christ by willingly dying for his bride who had been deceived by Satan, so that through his death, his beloved bride might die to self, take up Christ’s cross, and follow Jesus. That’s a wonderful gospel picture. Does this mean we can sin freely, using the prophetic foreshadow as justification for our evil intent? God forbid! What it does show us is what the Scripture does declare:
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
