Psalm 109:2
For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me, speaking against me with lying tongues.
TONGUES
Surely, this verse is prophetic of the Lord Jesus Christ. False witnesses were brought into the council against Him, and they spoke lies about Him. Before the Lord saved me, my tongue was as wicked and foul as any spawn of Satan. In my early years as a Navy deep sea diver, every other word I spoke was an ugly, vile expletive; and the wickedness of my mouth was an unruly fire and world of iniquity, burning the tympanic membranes of any soul within earshot. Praise the Lord! that my precious Savior touched my tongue with a living coal from the altar of life and immediately took away the foul language that betrayed my former, nautical self. Because those who are not of the truth hate the truth, those of us who have Christ within, and most especially love Christ through eternal, external fruit without, will be the target of wicked and deceitful mouths. It is because their mouths are opened against the Lord Jesus Christ. They will tell lies against Him by telling lies about you and me. Or they will attempt to bruise our faith by directly assaulting our precious Lord with their lies— “He was a good teacher,” they say, but deny He was God incarnate. “He’s a great example,” others exclaim, while exhibiting contrary behavior. “The tongue,” says James, “can no man tame” (Jas 3:8, KJV), because it can only be tamed by the life-changing power of the gospel of Jesus Christ, liberating the bound soul from sin and death. Hallelujah! What a Savior!
The tongue will lie against our Lord
Unless one’s sav’d by grace;
Eventually, an untrue word
Will squeak out from one’s face.
