John 21:25
Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
INVENTORY
For the Lord Jesus Christ’s three-and-a-half-year ministry, the beloved apostle could only suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Although the Holy Spirit ministers to John of this magnanimous feat, his frail flesh wonders if it is possible. Many of us, too, have probably wondered about this statement. I know I have. Nevertheless, if you and I really thought about it, we know this to be an absolutely true statement. Still in doubt? Take an eternal inventory of your life in Christ for the past year. Consider just what the Lord Jesus has done in your life alone. Consider the answered prayers. Consider the divine intervention. Consider His comfort given through the Scriptures. Consider the encouragement you received from fellow believers. Consider the tears you’ve shed over the passing of loved ones. Consider the joy you’ve celebrated in the birth of newborns. Consider the encouragement you’ve been to others in strengthening Christ’s church. Consider the faith you’ve exercised in sojourning day after day. Consider the pain you’ve experienced when the Holy Spirit has awakened you to godly sorrow over sin and your happy need of repentance. Now, peel back the curtain of God’s hidden grace in the lives of others. Does not your mind spin in the magnificent work of Christ by His unseen hand in the depths, the breadths, the heights, and the lengths of the farthest reaches of the unknown beyond our temporal sphere? Of course it does. Now, consider that Day of eternal truth, when the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flows from the throne of God and of the Lamb (Rev 22:1); when every glance of every one and every single thing will be a praise unto our glorious Christ Jesus— for God’s throne, and the Lamb’s unhindered reign, will inhabit each one of Christ’s precious redeemed. Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Yes, let us take a look at Christ,
See what He’s made alive;
It’s more than we can calculate
For Twenty-twenty-five.
