5/23 Reading Portions: Numbers 32; Psalm 77; Isaiah 24; 1 John 2
Psalm 77:12
I will ponder all Your work, and meditate on Your mighty deeds.
WONDERS
Before the Lord saved me, I never pondered His work or meditated upon His mighty deeds. The sad truth today is, though I have been saved by God’s grace for 39 years, it is amazing how often I take His works and mighty deeds for granted. Surely, I ponder His work and meditate upon His mighty deeds more than I have in the past. Nevertheless, when I read verses like this, I’m reminded that I fall short of His glory. Jesus never failed to ponder His Father’s work or meditate upon His mighty deeds. If I were translating the original Hebrew, I would interpret the verse like this:
“I will utter all Your acts, and commune with Your doings.”
Do we ponder the amazing truth of God’s grace in Christ until it causes us to spontaneously praise? Consider these utterances from the psalmist:
You are the God who works wonders! Psalm 77:14
And again,
You with Your arm redeemed Your people! Psalm 77:15
Do we commune with Christ’s mighty deeds? Are we prayerfully partaking of God’s grace in Christ? Has the redemption captivated our souls, enraptured our hearts, and renewed our minds? When we gaze upon the sky, do we marvel that God created it so His Son could ascend and disappear into its cloud; or that Jesus will return in the air we breathe so every eye will see Him? Do we glance upon a lofty peak and see Christ’s kingdom— a Stone made without hands which crushes the feet of the idol and grows into a mountain that fills the earth? When we look upon the waters of the sea, do we ponder that in it God prepared a big fish to swallow the prophet and foreshadow the resurrection? Is a tree merely a tree? Or do we see the cross upon which our Savior hung to redeem you and me? I repent in tears when I consider how often I forget to ponder the wonder.
Oh Lord, Your work I’ll ponder oft,
I must for it is good;
All points to Your redemption bought
With Your Son’s precious blood.
