“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me…”
JESUS
Since the Holy Spirit descended upon our Lord Jesus in the waters of the River Jordan (Luke 3:22), He received from God the Spirit without measure (John 3:34). This is a two-fold blessing for us. First, it means that everything Jesus did upon earth during His earthly ministry was sufficient, super-satisfying, and super-abundant in providing for every detail of our salvation. His perfect prayers supply our lack. His perfect thoughts make up our faults. His perfect deeds are imputed to our account. His suffering God’s eternal wrath paid our debt. His pious death satisfied our penalty. His precious blood cleanses our corruption. His resurrection seals our faith. Because Jesus has ascended and sent the same Spirit of the Lord that was upon Him to dwell with us and abide in us (John 14:17), we are anointed by the Holy Spirit so that we have all knowledge (1 Jn 2:20) —not know everything there is to know, but to know all things needed to pertain to this life so we may glorify God in Christ; that we may exalt the Lord Jesus Christ with our every breath; that we may proclaim the good news of the Lord Jesus to the poor; that we may, by God’s grace, proclaim liberty to the captives; that those who are blind to sin by the god of this world (2 Cor 4:4) may recover their sight and see Christ; that those who are oppressed by worldliness and wantonness may be set at liberty by Christ’s Word (John 8:31-32). Hallelujah! What a super-satisfying Savior!
Since the Holy Spirit came upon
Our Lord for ministry;
His power still continues on
In us, majestic’lly.
