“But this I confess to you, that according to the Way, which they call a sect, I worship the God of our fathers, believing everything laid down by the Law and written in the Prophets...” Acts 24:14
SCRIPTURES
Paul, having been arrested at the temple 12 days earlier (Acts 24:11), was brought before the Roman governor, Felix, and was accused of insurrection (Acts 24:5-9) by the spokesman for the high priest and elders, named Tertullus (Acts 24:1-2). In his defense, Paul’s confession was that the Scriptures were all about Jesus Christ of Nazareth. The apostle remained consistent with what Jesus said of Himself:
“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about Me.” John 5:39
Paul remained consistent with what David prophesied about Jesus:
Then I said, “Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written of Me.” Psalm 40:7
He was consistent with Simon Peter’s expression of Christ according to Scripture:
Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. 1 Peter 1:10-11
Finally, Paul was consistent with John’s assessment of Christ and the Scriptures:
For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Revelation 19:10
When we endeavor, by God’s grace, to see the Lord Jesus Christ in all Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, we will begin seeing Him more and more in the saints when we gather or meet as individuals because God is conforming us to Christ’s image (Rom 8:29). When we see Christ in one another, we will see more and more the potential of Christ saving others, just as He saved us. This, I believe, is what it means for us to “put on the Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom 13:14); however, we’ll have to cover that in another devotional article, either in Romans 13 or Numbers 15.
Jesus Christ, as frontlets for our eyes, is our greatest daily need.
