Song of Solomon 1:4
Draw me after You;
DRAW
As Christians we mature in our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, just as we would in any relationship on earth, whether spouse to spouse, parents to children, children to parents, etc. Yet with Christ, because of the corruptions remaining in mortal flesh, and with His being seated upon the throne of heaven, there is a distance that must be closed; and you and I are powerless to close it. With an honest evaluation of ourselves, we must acknowledge that our flesh is prone to wander. A great daily prayer, then, is “Draw me after You!” These blessed words are a petition for divine grace. Not only does it present a desire for personal communion with Christ, but also a longing for nearness to be enjoyed now, and an ache for the eternal abiding yet to come. Our request reflects upon the blessed truths of our Bridegroom’s person and work. It reminds us of the manifestations of His passionate love toward us through His holy Word:
Let Him kiss me with the kisses of His mouth! For Your love is better than wine; Song of Solomon 1:2
It stirs in us an understanding of the sweet aroma of His atoning Sacrifice and anointed grace of His salvation:
Your anointing oils are fragrant; Your name is oil poured out; therefore virgins love You. Song of Solomon 1:3
And though we are wretched sinners, Christ’s love for you and me overflows with grace and mercy, which amazes and overwhelms us:
I am dark, but lovely, Song of Solomon 1:5
May this blessed petition, Draw me after You, be our prayer request not only today, but everyday hereafter until the sweet kisses of Christ, the fragrant aroma of Christ, and the everlasting love of Christ are eternally and permanently ours in the bosom of heaven’s forevermore (1 Jn 3:2). Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Draw me after You, Lord Jesus,
Yes, bring me closer, nearer still;
Knowledge of Your love increases,
Abiding in Your holy will.
