Psalm 89:1
I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known Your faithfulness to all generations.
FAITHFULNESS
God’s mercy (steadfast love) can be seen and experienced by His people in many ways. Yet the most blessed is through His faithfulness as sovereign Author and Finisher over all His creation to bring to pass the glorious gospel in our situations and circumstances. The gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is ever and forever before His throne— like a crystal sea of glass (Rev 4:6), reflecting the majesty and sovereignty of Christ’s throne upon earth (Rev 4:5), while at the same time, casts a reflection back to our God the blessed faithfulness He mercifully bestows upon earth through His eternal gospel. Christ’s gospel is supreme, and God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit work in concert to faithfully provide us gospel pictures, illustrations, and examples in our daily lives. One beautiful and bewildering expression of YHVH God’s gospel faithfulness is in the life of Moses. In the whole of the book of Deuteronomy, Moses reminds Israel of their responsibility to a merciful God through repeating the commandments of God. He even mentions the great commandment of the law (Matt 22:37-38), the Hebrew Sh’ma (Deut 6:4-5). Yet Moses, because he did not sanctify the LORD God before Israel in the wilderness (Deut 4:21), he could not enter the good land across Jordan for his unfaithfulness (Num 20:12). Your disobedience and mine is reflected in Moses as sinners in need of God’s grace. For you and me to cross Jordan to receive the gospel promises, the prophet like unto Moses must die. Moses was not only a reflection of fallen man in his disobedience, but as a soul saved by grace, Moses was also a gospel reflection of the Prophet to come (Deut 18:15-19), the Lord Jesus Christ. As Moses must die for Israel to enter the Promised Land, the Lord Jesus must die before the people of God may enter life eternal in the gospel promises. The faithfulness of God in Christ must always first be seen in the gospel of Christ. The faithfulness of God’s people is most faithfully expressed in our praise of Christ’s gospel. Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Father, You have fulfill’d the law.
In Your Son, our Savior;
Help me to walk a righteous life
Fill’d with Christ’s behavior.
