1 Peter 3:7
Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

My apologies for sending this devotional thought out so late. I was rather indisposed for the past thirty-six hours. I had to take my wife of thirty-five years to the Emergency Room yesterday, and we had to spend the night in an observation room for her to be monitored. We are home now, and by God’s grace, she’s not experiencing the same severe discomfort she was feeling yesterday. So, with this one-day break from our devotional series in Genesis, and since the previous two days of devotionals touched on the first marriage, I wanted to encourage you with this devotional thought.
My wife and I do not look the same as when we first met. Nevertheless, I find her more beautiful today than I did some thirty-six years ago. Why? Because she somehow looks cuter than she did then? No. It’s because we have history. We’ve grown together as heirs… of the grace of life. Since God works all things together for good to those who love God (Rom 8:28), Lisa and I have endured and persevered together in Christ. The closer we have gotten to Christ in our individual salvations, the closer we grew in love, one for another. Likewise, as we struggled in life’s situations and circumstances together, the more we experienced the gospel union and communion blessed by God in the ordination of marriage (as mentioned on 3/11 and 3/10), the more insights we gained into Christ’s mercy, love, and grace toward us.
Interestingly, recognizing this growth in grace we have enjoyed and experienced by God’s grace, this has aided our understanding of the Scriptures concerning man’s encounter with Satan when he fell into sin in Eden’s Garden, as recorded in Genesis Chapter Three. We’ll take a look at that tomorrow.
Hallelujah! What a Gospel!
