Isaiah 26:9
For when Your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.
JUDGMENT
God’s holy anger…
is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. Romans 1:18
Isaiah says that by God’s judgments, all inhabitants of the world learn righteousness. Unbelieving men may rebel against God’s judgments and rail against His justice, yet their hatred of God is only proof of their unrighteousness, as well as a vindication of God’s justice. We who are saved by grace, however, have a greater revelation of God’s judgment because our eyes of faith have seen it in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ upon the cross. Receiving God’s relentless wrath upon His soul for sins Christ did not commit reminds us how sinful our sins truly are. The smallest of our sins are infinitely sinful because of whom it is we offend with our sins— an infinite God. Albeit, there are varied repercussions and degrees of transgression; nevertheless, all sins are offensive to God, infinitely, eternally, and undeniably. The revelation of Christ’s cross, and the judgment He suffered thereby, must melt our hearts and humble us to the dust. Our sins are so offensive to God’s divine character that it took nothing less than God Himself becoming a Man to suffer for the sins we committed against Him. The corruptions of our sins are so thorough in our mortal beings that we couldn’t save ourselves, nor justify ourselves before His righteous majesty. It is only by the revelation of God’s righteous judgment, Christ’s cross, whereby the inhabitants of the world may be saved. You and I have learned God’s righteous judgment by His grace; and therefore, we commune with Righteousness, for Jesus received judgment on our behalf. Hallelujah! What a Savior!
God’s judgment is a blessed truth
For sinners sav’d by grace:
Reveal’d in Jesus on the cross—
Hope alone for mankind’s race.
