9/4 Reading Portions: 1 Samuel 28; 1 Corinthians 9; Ezekiel 7; Psalm 45
Psalm 45:11
Since he is your lord, bow to him.
BOW
As much as I love the King James Version, and as often as I’ve used it for nearly 40 years, the beauty of the KJV, “for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him,” doesn’t quite capture the immediacy of the ESV’s command. Of this verse, Mr. Spurgeon wrote,
“The church must forsake all others and cleave to Jesus only, or she will not please him nor enjoy the full manifestation of his love.” —C. H. Spurgeon, The Treasury of David
While the “daughters of kings” (Psa 45:9) speak of Christ’s church, it most certainly applies to us as individual members of His church. This may be a most needful verse for me this year— perhaps one of the most important. My flesh must be forced to submit to Christ. I must read this verse daily for it has power to subdue my obstinate flesh. Since Jesus has saved me, He is my Lord; and therefore, I must bow to Him, ever and always. Jesus is God, who has been anointed by His God…
with the oil of gladness beyond His companions. Psalm 45:7
His throne is eternal and the scepter of His kingdom is upright indeed (Psa 45:6). In His majesty, Jesus rides out victoriously (Psa 45:4), wearing His fragrant robe (Psa 45:8), and His name written upon His thigh reads…
King of kings and Lord of lords. Revelation 19:16
Jesus has saved us by His grace; therefore, let us bow to Him in adoration. Jesus has laid down His life to pay a debt He did not owe, relieving a debt you and I owe but cannot possibly pay; therefore, let us worship Him in humility. Jesus has conquered death and hell by His resurrection; therefore, let us bow to Him in godly fear. Jesus is coming again as His holy Word promises; therefore, let us bow to Him and cast your crowns before His nail-pierced feet, for He is worthy, just as the great multitude cries out:
“Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.” Revelation 19:6
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Jesus is King, God eternal,
To Him let our knees bend;
Christ is Lord, He reigns supernal,
And will soon come again.
