2 Corinthians 1:20, KJV
For all the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
AMEN
After Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, one filled with reproofs and corrections, Paul found Titus in Macedonia, the bearer of the first letter, where he received the report of how the first letter was received. Delighted with the church’s response, Paul wrote this second letter from Macedonia, probably from Philippi. In this second letter, Paul reminds the Corinthians of the afflictions he and his missionary team suffered for the gospel’s sake. Later in the letter, Paul goes into some specifics of his own personal sufferings: imprisoned; five lashings; three beatings with rods; stoned and left for dead once; three shipwrecks; 24 hours adrift in the sea; etc. (2 Cor 11:23-28). Yet despite his afflictions, he was comforted by all he had experienced because, he says,
For all the promises of God find their Yes in Him. That is why it is through Him that we utter our Amen to God for His glory. ESV
This is a most blessed truth. Most of us have not suffered to the extent Paul had. It is certain, however, none of us, including Paul, have suffered to the extent Jesus experienced— physically, at the hands of sinful men; and spiritually, receiving God’s holy, eternal, and infinite wrath from heaven above for sins He did not commit. When our eyes are upon Jesus and our hearts are surrendered to the truth of Christ crucified, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, truly, in our lives, there’s no such thing as a bad day. It is yea, Lord, and amen for God’s glory. Misunderstood? Amen! Enlightened? Amen. Suffering sickness? Amen! Good health? Amen! Cold rain? Amen! Blistering sun? Amen! Jesus Christ? Yes in Him. Remember— in Him is key. May we ever stay in Him by God’s grace. Amen! Hallelujah! What a Savior!
The promises of God are Christ,
Yes, Jesus, through and through;
He’s the promise and He is life,
He died for me and you.
