GUIDE
There is great wisdom in receiving guidance through holy counsel from God in Christ. Certainly, we are reminded of the biblical maxim:
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. Proverbs 14:12
The flesh of the unsaved man will lead him straight to eternal judgment and fiery destruction, because he has no guide at all. The corruptions of our flesh will lead us to misery if we forsake the grace of God’s guidance and counsel of His holy Word. Our verse today reminds us of our heavenly trust and transport. Christ Jesus is not only a Refuge against the enemy’s ramparts and fiery darts; He is Protection for us in our pilgrimage, keeping us safe in our sojourn through His guidance and heavenly counsel. Does this mean we won’t encounter trials, tribulations, persecutions, and hatred from a fallen world? Certainly not. Yet Christ’s guidance by the Spirit and the blessed grace and truth of counsel in the holy Scriptures will comfort us in calamity, encourage us in evil times, and strengthen us to soldier on. When situations and circumstances appear to be peace and safety in the temporal world, the reminder of His guidance and counsel will help to keep us from submitting to the flesh. Christ’s guidance is not a long-distance affair. He holds us by our right hand (Psa 73:23). He is near (Psa 73:28), for He will never leave us nor forsake us (Heb 13:5). After our sojourn, He will receive you and me into glory because He is our only Desire (Psa 73:25) and our precious Portion forever (Psa 73:26). Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Guide me, oh Lord, and grant me grace
To heed Your counsel and embrace
Your guiding hand where’er You lead,
Till Glory’s reach’d with all God’s speed.
