Psalm 110:2
Rule in the midst of Your enemies!
MESSIAH
This beloved psalm from David is one of the truly Messianic psalms. Although many passages in the psalms give us a hint of Christ; or an understanding of God’s Word as our perspective is guided by Christ; or an understanding of our depravity in comparison to Christ; or other such allusions that do not speak directly of our Lord; this psalm is certainly of Israel’s Priest-King, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We thank God for Christ’s sovereignty as King of kings and His interceding power as our great High Priest, for…
…while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, Romans 5:10
As God’s great High Priest, Jesus pled for our forgiveness (Luke 23:34), even though we cried out for His death (Luke 23:21). Though He is eternal King (John 18:37), we pressed a crown of thorns upon His head and crucified Him as a criminal. Had the Lord Jesus Christ not ruled eternally as King, with power and authority as very God, and having ruled in our midst while we were still enemies of Christ, we could not be saved. For sins we’ve committed against the eternal Lawgiver, and for the sentence justly passed by the heavenly Judge, as enemies of heaven we required nothing less than an absolute pardon decreed by the supreme King for gracious reprieve. Now, as subjects of His holy kingdom, may we be reminded daily what we once were, what Christ has transformed us to be, and what it cost Him to make it so. Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Lord Jesus out of Zion sends
In strength His mighty tribe.
In midst of all His enemies,
He rules for He’s alive.
