Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy. Psalm 64:1
PRAYER
Our flesh is full of fear and doubts. The flesh opposes the Spirit (Gal 5:17) and has nothing good in it (Rom 7:18). The flesh, at times, will cause us to think that perhaps God doesn’t hear us, or that He isn’t listening. There are even times when we may rationally recognize that the Lord God hears us, nevertheless, we still feel we’re all alone and His ear is far from our distant cry. Elijah felt like that (1 Ki 19:4).
The awesome truth is, however, our heavenly Father does hear your voice and mine. He hears our joys. He hears our thanksgivings. He hears our petitions. He hears our heartbreaks. Yes, He even hears our complaints. How do we know? He always, always, and always hears the prayers of Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son (John 11:42). The heavenly Father heard every prayer of Jesus, both privately and publicly, while He walked upon the earth. As the great and eternal Intercessor (Heb 7:25), Jesus Christ continues to pray… and the Father continues to hear Him. Therefore, if we are saved by God’s grace and in Christ Jesus, then the heavenly Father also hears our every prayer, for Christ’s sake.
Because He hears the voice of our complaint, God preserves us from the onslaught of the enemy. The Lord shoots and wounds principalities, powers, and spiritual wickedness (Psa 64:7). He brings them to ruin and shame (Psa 64:8). Because God hears and preserves His saints, all mankind will fear and ponder (Psa 64:9), and our brothers and sisters in Christ will rejoice and take refuge in Him (Psa 64:10). Today, let our voices rise in praise and thanksgiving for our God’s hearing ear! Hallelujah! What a Savior!
My flesh is full of doubts and fears,
Yet my God hears my voice—
For Christ’s sake, God gives open ear,
For that, I must rejoice!
