CONSIDER
I consider the days of old, the years long ago. Psalm 77:5
The Lord Jesus Christ set aside His glory as God to become a Man. It didn’t mean He stopped being God. God is eternal and can’t stop being God, else He wouldn’t be God. Yet, by taking on human flesh via His incarnation, He did so by giving Himself no advantage over any other man. Born of a virgin, Jesus must grow in wisdom and stature like any other human being (Luke 2:52). He learned how to walk, talk, and read just as you and I would. As a Man, He must also learn obedience; especially by every situation and circumstance He suffered (Heb 5:8). Concerning truth and wisdom, Jesus received this from the Scriptures.
The Lord Jesus told the disbelieving religious leaders of His day that the Scriptures spoke of Him (John 5:39). Yes, every detail of God’s Word was about Him (Matt 5:17-18). Details, however, can be overwhelming without a solid foundation. The Lord Jesus knew this because He read it in God’s Word. Despite realizing the responsibility of every jot and tittle of who He was and what He came to do, Jesus considered the consistent truth revealed in Scripture from the days of old, the years long ago: His Father is the glorious God, whose way is holy, and that there is nothing or no one who can compare with His greatness (Psa 77:13). When Jesus considered the days of old, He set Himself to bring glory to His heavenly Father in everything He did (1 Cor 10:31). It was never forced, grievous, or unwilling (1 Jn 5:3). It flowed as naturally from the Lord Jesus as a spring of water down a gentle hill— because Christ considered the ancient times and days which stretched back to the beginning.
When we consider the days of old and recognize every episode was ordained to show us Christ, glorifying the Father through the Son should occur in our lives as naturally as breathing.
From long ago, the plan was Christ,
Declared before time was;
Its glory trips the worldly wise
‘Til Christ alone they trust.
