12/3 Reading Portions: 2 Chronicles 2; 1 John 2; Nahum 1; Luke 17
Nahum 1:7
He knows those who take refuge in Him.
KNOWS
Surely the omniscient LORD knows all things. He knows both the evil and good, the reprobate and the redeemed. Nevertheless, the prophet gives us a comforting truth: the LORD is intimately acquainted with those who take refuge in Him, or…
He knoweth them that trust in Him. KJV
There were those, since the days of Isaiah, since the days of the Lord Jesus, and even today, who profess to know Jesus Christ,
…but their heart is far from [Him]. Matthew 15:18
They will go so far as to claim to do mighty works, preach and teach the gospel, and even cast out demons in Jesus’ name (Matt 7:22); however, these people are all about their own works and reputations, and have nothing to do with the way of the Master or His utmost exaltation for the Father’s great glory. The Lord Jesus said,
“I am the Good Shepherd. I know My own and My own know Me.” John 10:14
In the kingdom of heaven, it is more important for the Lord Jesus to know you and me than it is for us to know who He is. You see, we will never know Jesus fully and completely. We are finite and we are broken. Even in that Day, when Jesus returns and He bestows upon us immortal, incorruptible, and glorious bodies (1 Cor 15:52-54; 1 Jn 3:2), we are still finite created beings and Jesus is the infinite and eternal God. Our discovery of who He is and what He has done through His redeeming work will be our constant occupation for all eternity. Yet in that Day, Jesus will say unto those heartless wretches filled with lip service and deeds of the flesh,
“I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness.” Matthew 7:23
The Lord knows those who trust in Him,
Who take refuge in His name;
He seeks our good and guides our steps
To keep us from sin’s shame.
