Genesis 1:5
God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
DAY
Again, as new creations in Christ (2 Cor 5:17), the original, literal six days of creation, are prophetic not only of the Lord Jesus Christ, but of your salvation and mine. It is found here in this verse as well. It is written:
For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. 1 Thessalonians 5:5
Indeed, as children of light, we are children of Christ, because Jesus is the Light of the world (John 8:12). From the very beginning, our Triune God not only separates the light from the darkness (Gen 1:4), but He also delineates a clear distinction between Day and Night. Our Lord Jesus explained this truth in this way to His disciples just before He went to Bethany to raise Lazarus from the dead
“Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” John 11:9-10
It is during the day, that is, in the light, when our Lord Jesus works. We likewise must bring forth our good works that glorify Christ in the light (which again, is our loving and reverent response to His love toward us); that is, we are able to do so because we see the light of the world—Jesus. In other words, as children of God saved by God’s grace through faith in Christ, the gospel witness of our lives should not come forth through nightly efforts. In other words, a good gospel witness cannot come forth by ungodly or worldly means. Praying before one steals or murders so as not to get caught is not the work of the child of the Day. Sharing the gospel with the person one is having an adulterous affair with is of the darkness and not of the light. The Day and Night are separate and incompatible in Christ’s kingdom. Remember that…
…you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
