Numbers 9:23
At the command of the LORD they camped, and at the command of the LORD they set out.
ENCAMPED
A more consistent man never walked upon the planet than the Lord Jesus Christ. His life was consistent with His word, and His word with His life, because He was ever and always sensitive and submissive to the Father’s will. Jesus tarried often all night in prayer, communing with His heavenly Father (Luke 6:12). When it was near time to go to Calvary, Jesus set His face toward Jerusalem (Luke 9:51). When the Lord Jesus showed His disciples the importance of God’s perfect and sovereign timing, He waited beyond Jordan until Lazarus had died before they went to Bethany (John 11:6). With our Lord, there were no mishaps, mistakes, or misgivings. The children of Israel received a foreshadow of Christ’s perfect timing with the cloud which rested over the tent of meeting, for the God’s Messiah came with the clouds of heaven (Dan 7:13). Christ’s presence, for Israel, had an appearance of fire at night (Num 9:16). When it lifted, Israel set out; and when it settled down, Israel camped (Num 9:17). Israel received the cool comfort of the Christ’s presence in the heat of the desert day, while at night, the same cloud of the Christ’s presence provided warmth in the cold, as well as illumination in darkness. As the people of God, encamped with Christ, we should likewise be as sensitive and submissive to God’s commands— both as individuals and collectively as local congregations. There are times when we should sit at the Lord’s feet and be taught of Him (Luke 10:39). There are times when we must scurry from a tree at the Lord’s word (Luke 19:5). Habitual obedience increases attentiveness to spiritual promptings; otherwise, we would never be capable of discerning pearls and holy things before hogs and dogs (Matt 7:6). Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Submission to the Lord’s commands
Will make us sensitive
T’ the workings of His mighty hand
So for Him we may live.
