6/27 Reading Portions: Deuteronomy 32; Psalm 119:121-144; Isaiah 59; Matthew 7
Deuteronomy 32:2
“May my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew, like gentle rain upon the tender grass, and like showers upon the herb.”
GENTLE
During his generation, there was no person meeker or humbler than Moses (Num 12:3). In his song, Moses continued to plead that he may instruct with humility, that his teaching would be like gentle rain upon the tender grass, and like showers upon the herb. Why? Because he did…
“…proclaim the name of the LORD; ascrib[ing] greatness to our God!” Deuteronomy 32:3
It must be for the prophet, as his life was a reflection of Christ, the true Prophet to come (Deut 18:18). Although Jesus had all authority from His heavenly Father (John 3:35), our Lord Jesus came to us in humility (Phil 2:8), being “gentle and lowly in heart” (Matt 11:29). the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. James 3:17, emphasis added
Though I am not always gentle, I strive to be, by God’s grace. And when I fail, as Moses did (Deuteronomy 32:51), I thank God for His amazing grace in Christ, which is…
gentle, and easy to be intreated… James 3:17, KJV
Then, the fullness of God’s mercy will become fruitful unto us, so that we may be, by God’s grace, gentle rain upon the tender grass, and like showers upon the herb. Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Oft times I’m not a gentle child,
I should be like my Lord:
“Make me like Jesus, meek and mild,
According to Your Word.”
