6/3 Reading Portions: Deuteronomy 7; Psalm 90; Isaiah 35; Revelation 5
Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Psalm 90:1
SUPREME
Christ as the dwelling place for God’s redeemed is an eternal truth. Moses declares it in his prayer, saying it is so in all generations. Before the Lord’s incarnation, Christ was the habitation for God’s redeemed. Since Christ’s birth, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension, Jesus is still the abode for all He has saved, is saving now, and will save until His return— and this, while He rules and reigns upon His heavenly throne at the right hand of the Father (Heb 1:3).
The dwelling place of Christ is a holy and exalted position. By faith, we live in Christ, who has…
raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places. Ephesians 2:6
It is also a humbling and reverent position; for the light of Christ’s holiness illuminates more and more the corruptions which still remain in our mortal flesh. As we live in Christ, who reveals our sins, we respond with…
godly grief [which] produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret. 2 Corinthians 7:10
The dwelling place of Christ is also a helpful and fruitful position. Through Christ’s abiding relationship, Jesus says,
“I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
The dwelling place of Christ is also an honorable and nourishing position as we commune by faith with Jesus upon the truth of His blessed sacrifice. Jesus says,
“Whoever feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.” John 6:56
There are certainly many, many more blessings we receive from this abiding life in Christ; however, space prevents us from listing them all today. Our King Jesus is the supreme and all-sufficient Savior. Hallelujah!
In Christ, our Lord, do we abide,
With passion, our hearts burn;
A refuge, too, in which we hide
Until our King returns.
